  • DUNLUCE CASTLE & THE SPECTACULAR GIANT’S CAUSEWAY
  • Portrush, United Kingdom
  • The spectacular Giant's Causeway and Dunluce Castle are two incredible sites.  Since we docked in Portrush we had quite a quick trip to the Causeway.  SilverSeas had arranged for us to get into the site 1 hour before regular opening so we had a great time having the place to ourselves for quite awhile, our group was about 120 people. Bob was braver than I as he climbed up the rocks for some pic.  If you have been there you understand words make it hard to explain the views.  We were blessed with blue skies and even warmth.

We then headed to the castle for a “quick photo stop”.

Our group of 5 buses pulled into the small parking lot and we had 45 minutes to explore.  Being good bus tour members we were all back to the buses with time to spare.  Then the problems started.  It seems that a man who lives beside the castle is not amused with the bus tours coming to the castle.  So to show is his defiance he parked his trucks at the end of the roads leading into and out of the site trapping everyone into the parking lot.  Police were called, negotiations were made and for a long 40 minutes we were trapped.  The staff were great keeping us informed.

We made it back to the town and found a chippy to have a quick fish and chips. No cheeky pint today
Then back to the ship to get some laundry done.  And to have a rest before trivia tonight. Came in Third in trivia but Bob and I answered 3 questions right, I could not remember the name of the Adam Smith book.

I got invited to Name that Tune tonight so Bob begged off and I headed out.  Just before the game began the captain came onboard to say tonight we would be able to see the northern lights.  So to celebrate we played for double points.  Okay to stop the anticipation we came 3rd but only because the judge would not allow me Justin Beiber as the Disesbsito   Sorry for spelling.  I knew all the songs just not the artists. So only 2 points won but still working hard for the pen.

I grabbed my coat and headed to the top deck around 10:30, after about 1 hour of minimal lights the show started.  I ran down and got Bob out of bed to see this.  It was  wonderful to see so many people who have never seen them in awe, one woman like me was close to tears at the beauty that nature can have.

  1. We loved the Giants' Causeway, too. Wealth of Nations? Invisible Hand? There's a reason I didn't continue in Biz or Econ.
