May 12th - Lunga and Iona

·         Morning

so.   I wrote a lovely piece but it was lost. So will try again.

Today is my first thing on my bucket list for this trip PUFFINS.  So with not further delay here they come.

We had a bit of a warning that the landing etc would not be for the faint of heart so beware but Puffins were to be seen so safety be damned.   We landed safely with lots of staff to grab onto my arm and lift me to safety.   Up we climbed to see these wonderful birds.  Yes there were flowers and I got pics of them but I was here for the Puffins.  We did get within  10 feet of them so that was odd. Bob has some wonderful video was well. We spent about 2 1/2 hours there and could not understand why some guests only spent 30 minutes.  So many of these cute birds who only spend a short period of their life on shore.

Bob has video of the staff helping me back onto one of the last zodiacs of the day and we made it safely back on board.  But I will say we did get a bit wet on the way back.   I was holding on tight to the ropes and to the knee of the person beside me … not Bob.

Cruise by another island as we headed to Iona where I have to get a stone, don’t tell anyone as this is against the ship rules but if you knew who it was for you would know why I break rules.  We have been told there will be a choir in the Abbey so that will be lovely.

·         IONA ABBEy Iona, United Kingdom

Iona Abbey is one of Scotland's most sacred and historical sites. We were in the last group to get a zodiac and they were delayed so we only had a very short time to see the Abbey, the cruise line has set up a choir to sing in the Abbey so we wanted to see that.  The shops closed at 4:25 so I was not able to get everything I wanted but I was able to smuggle a certain something for a certain someone.

Bob went on the extra hike after the visit but I am heading back to trivia. Partially to support the team and partially because I am hitting the hike wall.

I have to say a zodiac ride in big waves and without your loved one to hold on to was not fun but I did it.   After arriving I ran up to the trivia as I was late, but since so few people there we all won 5 points.

Had a lovely video chat with Josh, technology is so wonderful.

We have a late start tomorrow so finally get to catch up on our sleep.

  1. I agree, puffins definitely worth the risk. They are super cute. I've only ever seen them flying and not up very close. And I'd skip a hike any day to get to trivia.
