May 3rd - Day out with the Girls in Cambridge

Today will always be known as “Well that was no trip to Cambridge!”

This is what we learned today.
1.  My waterproof walking shoes are 100% waterproof Bob are 98% waterproof
2. Jeans soak up a lot of rainwater when you sit in a puddle (sub learn Oxfam stores are great)
3.  If you have to spend a day in Cambridge in the POURING RAIN you want to do it with Sue, Mandy and Liz with faithful KB in the lead.

The weather said there was a chance of rain today so we headed off thinking the some light rain was not going to slow us down.  Bob and I headed to Kings Cross train station made famous for its platform 9 3/4.  Even at 9am there was a long line of people of all ages and costumes waiting to take pics and have a tour.

45 minutes later we arrived in Cambridge to be met at the station by our three friends.  A trip to London would not be complete without spending some time with them, this time we also had KB the trusted dog along for the trip.

Mandy drove us through the winding streets and the drizzle fell, we can do this all said.  We parked and began our walk through the town, still lightly raining but we do not melt.  Lots of lovely old college buildings ( some reminded me of Kingston so I felt at home).
We stopped by a lovely dog friendly cafe for a cup a, but heading back outside the light rain had changed into what could be called in polite company as pretty p#(y heavy rain.

But we had a highlight of the trip to do so off we went for our private punt ride down the beautiful Cam river.  As we approached the punt pickup area we were undeterred by the sight of the gondolier bailing water out of the punts.  In we “scampered” to the punt, blankets were handed out ( did i mention it was cold and windy). Umbrella raised and we were off.  Yes KB was on board as well.
I will let the pics tell the story of the trip.

After the wonderful punt ride we found a pet friendly pub for a warming lunch.  I ran down the street to the Oxfam store to buy Bob a pair of track pants and me a very “stylish” pair of pants so we did not have to come back to London on the train looking like we had survived the Titanic.  Of course after the pub lunch and a drink the rain had gone back to a light drizzle.

Bob and I were dropped off back at the station and made it safely back to London.  Luckily our friendly doorman Joe was not on duty to see us come back wearing different clothes than when he had headed out that morning. He would not have believed our luck in spending such a wonderful day in Cambridge.

Bob’s comment on the day was “it was not as crowded as I thought I might be”.
